Visible. has developed a device which provides clean drinkable water and light at the same time for marginalised communities. The device can be separated to two sections, where one acts as water distiller, while the other generates electricity for light through thermoelectric generator (TEG). The design principles for Light2O are:

Clean drinkable water is generated through distillation method. This is made possible by two main components, which are Parabolic Through Collector (PTC) and condenser. Unclean water is channelled through PTC from water tank, where the water is evaporated in the process as PTC collects solar thermal energy and directs it to the water channel. Then, the vapour is transferred into the condenser to condense into distilled water. The impurities and unclean water are separated from the distilled water that is stored in a tank.
Thermoelectric generator (TEG) is a solid device that converts heat flux created through temperature difference into electrical energy. This device is suitable to be integrated with PTC as PTC collects solar thermal on its surface, thus creating a significant temperature difference with its surroundings. Through the electricity generated, it is stored into a battery for LED lantern.
The current solution that we have will be able to produce as much as 22L of clean drinking water and a minimum of 2 hours of light for it’s user per day.
